Holiday Survival Guide for the Not So Jolly! 5 Things That Will Make This Xmas a Great One for You!

Do you break into a sweat with the first sight of those xmas lights? Does the thought of candy canes and xmas trees raise your blood pressure? Do you feel like the Grinch is your spirit animal? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then it seems like you’ve got a case of the holiday blues! That’s when you can’t enjoy the goodness of the holidays because you are so overwhelmed with all the craziness this time of year brings! Well honey bunny, I’m here to tell you that you aren’t alone, in fact there are tons of people who get these same Christmas blues every year! Don’t worry though because I’ve got your back! Here are 5 things that will help you keep the good vibes flowing this holiday season!

Skip Out on the Traditional Holiday Tunes: Between Jingle Bells, White Christmas, and Silent night (just to name a few) being on constant repeat every single year in every single store, it’s easy to get fed up with the same ol’ corny Christmas music! You might dread going into the store just because the music is so annoying…and don’t even get me started on how even though you might hate those xmas tunes, they somehow get stuck on repeat in your head for the rest of the day! I mean, I for one am someone who doesn’t like anything that is routine, so if you’re tired of these played out tunes, it’s easy to understand your pain! You can’t ask for the department store aux cord to fix this problem, however, you can control the music that gets stuck in your own head by adding some better Christmas music to your life! Look for music that has a xmas theme but has more of an updated edge to it that way you can get those holiday feels without being annoyed. And if we’re going to talk about dope xmas music, might I suggest the Mad Decent A Very Decent Christmas 5 mixtape! With this one, you can get in the holiday spirit with some dope beats that you can actually dance to and enjoy! I guarantee these are tunes that you definitley won’t mind getting stuck in your head!

Mind on the Money, Money on the Mind: I feel like the minute I say the word Christmas, my bank account cries a little tear. The more people in your life means the more gifts you have to buy, which also means the more money you have to spend. If you’re breaking out into hives just thinking about all the money you have to spend don’t ever get desperate enough where you feel like re-gifting something is ok (because it’s never ok)…you just have to start getting creative honey! Save money anywhere you can by taking advantage of those coupons that come in the mail and search for deals on the web, there’s usually a ton this time of year. This is even a time where you can get arts and crafty if you can make it look good enough (btw guys, i guarantee your GF will love anything you make as long as it has sentimental value…we LOVE that stuff). For instance, you can make a photo album with all your sweet pictures! Websites like Shutterfly or apps like Free Prints make it super easy and affordable to make the perfect sentimental value photo album! Basically, just remember that you can save money if you can get creative and find deals.

For the People who Hate Being Around…People: The crowds around this time are freakin impossible to avoid! Just the other day I wanted to go to the mall to buy something and I literally left because I couldn’t find a damn parking spot! It’s crazy! And even if I did get a spot, I already know I would’ve had to deal with being surrounded by lots of rude pushy people. Try to avoid these crazy crowds as much as possible! This is an instance where it’s totally worth it to wake up early to get your shopping done. Whatever store you need to go to try to get there as soon as they open, it might even be worth it to get to the store at least 15 minutes before they open so that you have a chance to get a good parking spot! The later in the day, the bigger the crowd, so get there as early as possible and if possible try to do it on a week day instead of weekend. Also, a good solution when it comes to parking is to just take an Uber! Get picked up and dropped off instead of raising your blood pressure looking for a spot. Oh and make sure you know what you want BEFORE arriving, or at least have an idea of what you want to get! It saves you time and frustration when you can go in there with a game plan. If push comes to shove and you’re still feeling the anxiety from the crowds, you always have online shopping! But if this is the option you’re taking then you have to do your online shopping like…asap! Things happen, deliveries get lost or delayed sometimes, so when it comes to online shopping, the earlier the better!

Customize Your Christmas: If you’re tired of the typical green and red, can’t stand the winter wonderland theme, or bored of the traditional Christmas decor, then that’s fine! Nobody said that you have to like this stuff and there are no rules when it comes to Christmas, so make it into exactly what you want it to be! If you’re favorite color is black then decorate your tree with nothing but black ornaments. If you’re favorite holiday is actually Halloween then put up black or purple Christmas lights instead. If Christmas makes you cringe, then incorporating the things you like into it will make it way more enjoyable! Just do you sweetie, do you!

Be an “On Time Oscar”, not a “Last Minute Lucy”: I for one can speak to this one more than anything, because every year I wait until the verrrrrry last minute, and every year my anxiety comes on verrrrry strong. Waiting to the last minute means even bigger ruder crowds, scrambling for the perfect present because the store either ran out of what you want or doesn’t have anything good left, and it’s a definite holiday buzz kill! The later you wait the less patience you have. We are just getting into December so do yourself a favor, start figuring out what you’re buying NOW, and start shopping right NOW. That way when it’s almost xmas you can sit back under your warm blanket, drinking your hot chocolate and actually enjoying those days leading up to xmas.

Don’t be Scrooge this year! The vibes can be good for even the grumpiest person when these survival tips are applied! If you want different results then you have to take different actions, so get a hold of all your xmas duties and actually enjoy the goodness that this time of year has to offer! Sending all the good xmas vibes your way! 🙂
